During this visit I was able to walk around the room and work with a seventh grade class as they reviewed geology and Pangea. My CT has an amazing teaching style where she can make the lesson connect to almost anything that the students are interested in. If for some reason she can't make a fun connection she is able to tie in a fun activity that the students get really immersed in. She is sure to nurture the inquisitive nature of her students so there is always a healthy scientific/educational discussion going on. The students are fully aware that she is in charge and they are very respectful of her when she is speaking. If for some reason the discussion gets a little out of control she hits a bell on her desk and they immediately stop the side discussion. In all of the classes I have observed that this teacher facilitates she has the same teaching style and classroom climate. All of the students treat her with respect, which I am sure means she started the year off strong so they students know they can not get away with clowning around in her class. She also makes the students take responsibility for their learning with the scientist notebooks and calling them up to the smart board to help teach the class a piece of the lesson. When I think about the type of teacher I will be engaging my students and having them take an active roll in their learning are the two most important approaches I will use.
